Monsters, Inc. bukanlah sekedar nama sebuah perusahaan raksasa. Karena didalamnya memang benar-benar ada para monster mulai dari yang bertubuh super besar hingga yang rupanya sungguh menakutkan, apalagi bagi anak kecil. Dunia para monster hanya bisa dialiri dan dihidupkan oleh sebuah energi yang datangnya dari suara teriakan anak kecil, oleh karena itu banyak sekali monster yang bertugas di dalamnya. Pada malam hari mereka menyusup ke dunia manusia, tepatnya kamar para anak kecil untuk mengambil sebanyak-banyaknya suara teriakan mereka. Sebut saja Sulley atau James P. Sullivan (John Goodman), ia adalah monster pemecah rekor yang dihormati oleh seluruh penduduk monster, karena skornya yang tinggi dan kesuksesannya dalam mengumpulkan suara-suara anak. Walau di dalam hatinya ia sebenarnya adalah monster yang sangat pengasih. Sampai pada suatu hari, seorang anak kecil bernama Boo, tanpa disengaja masuk ke dalam dunia monster dan menimbulkan kekacauan. Ini bermula Sulley yang menemukan sebuah pintu yang masih aktif di ruang kerja saat jam istirahat, padahal hal ini sangat dilarang. Sampai akhirnya seorang anak kecil yang lucu berhasil mengikutinya. Bersama Mike, partnernya, Sulley mencoba mencari cara untuk mengembalikan Boo ke dunianya. Dan hal itu tak mudah, apalagi ada Randall, monster ungu yang sangat iri terhadap Sulley. Di tengah kericuhan itu Sulley pun menemukan suatu rahasia besar busuk dari perusahaan tempatnya bekerja. Sanggupkah Sulley menyelesaikan tugasnya? In a distant, but not so unrealistic, future where mankind has abandoned earth because it has become covered with trash from products sold by the powerful multi-national Buy N Large corporation, WALL-E, a garbage collecting robot has been left to clean up the mess.
